Who is Jennifer Leavey from Jeopardy? Inside the DTCC Writer’s Creative and Musical Life
Jennifer Leavey’s Jeopardy! introduction describes her as a technical writer originally from Ashland, Massachusetts, but her biography reveals an unusual combination of technical expertise and artistic interests.
Leavey has spent her career finding ways to make complicated information understandable. At the same time, she has maintained interests in nonfiction writing, music, literature and community work.
Those seemingly different areas have one important element in common: communication.

A Career Built Around Making Complex Information Clear
At DTCC, Leavey serves as a Senior Associate in Client Learning. Her professional work includes technical and client-facing documentation concerning sophisticated financial-market systems and services.
Accessibility is particularly important to her approach to technical writing. Rather than treating documentation simply as information that must be published, her professional interests include making that information usable by a wider range of readers.
She has also emphasized mentorship and created an initiative aimed at new hires.
Earlier in her career, Leavey worked for iRobot, where she combined writing and editing with content strategy, knowledge management and project coordination. Her work surrounding a Knowledge Base migration to Salesforce demonstrated the organizational side of technical communication.
Why Creative Writing Remains Important to Jennifer Leavey
Leavey earned an MFA in Nonfiction from Lesley University after studying there from 2012 to 2014.
Her interest in nonfiction was already established before entering the program. Her piece “The Devil Went Down To Ashland” was published through Lesley’s literary community in 2010.
Although her primary career became technical writing, she continued to write creatively. That means her experience stretches across two very different forms of nonfiction: documentation designed for precision and usability, and personal writing designed for expression and storytelling.
More Than a Decade in Boston’s Music Community
Leavey’s association with Boston Raising Powerful Musicians began in 2013.
Over more than a decade, she has remained involved with an organization dedicated to using rock music as a vehicle for confidence, empowerment and self-expression. She eventually moved into organizational leadership and is an Officer-at-Large for the 2025–2027 board term.
Her own identity as a musician helps connect that volunteer work with one of her personal passions.
A Broad Range of Interests
Leavey’s interests don’t stop with writing and music. She is an enthusiastic reader and has expressed affection for coffee, ice cream, karaoke, sports movies and composition books.
She also has professional proficiency in French.
Her Jeopardy! appearance therefore brings together years spent learning, writing, reading and communicating across very different subjects—and gives the Massachusetts native an opportunity to put that breadth of knowledge to work on television.
