Who is Jason Vincze from Jeopardy? How a Vanderbilt Runner, Columbia MBA and Sailboat Resident Opened a Manhattan Bar

Jason Vincze could reasonably be described as a financier, athlete, media strategist, bartender, sommelier, sailor or entrepreneur.

On Jeopardy!, however, he is introduced simply as a bar owner.

That bar is Bar Andiamo on Manhattan’s Upper East Side.

The road to opening it took Vincze through Texas, Tennessee, Washington, New York and California.

Running Was a Major Part of His Early Life

Vincze grew up in Plano, Texas, and later attended Vanderbilt University.

There, he became a four-year member of the men’s cross-country team.

His athletic achievements included SEC Academic Honor Roll selections, a team Newcomer of the Year award and MVP recognition.

He remained connected to the program after graduation and later became President of Vanderbilt’s Cross Country and Track and Field Alumni Association.

Finance Was His First Major Professional Career

After graduating with an Economics degree and minors in History and Financial Economics, Vincze entered private credit.

At MidCap Financial, he worked on a roughly $500 million portfolio of secured credit facilities.

He also helped with a roughly $400 million franchise-finance business line.

The role required financial analysis, portfolio management and understanding businesses across several industries.

Then Came Columbia Business School

Vincze entered Columbia’s MBA program in 2022.

He deliberately focused on Finance, Media and Entertainment.

His activities were equally eclectic, including media organizations, CBS Follies, the Arts Society, Gourmet, lacrosse and the Spirits Club.

He also participated in a Chazen study tour to Australia focused on sustainable food, beverage and agriculture.

Entertainment Nearly Became His Next Career

Vincze tested several corners of the entertainment industry.

At Madison Square Garden Entertainment, he worked on analytics and business operations.

At Creative Artists Agency, he researched celebrity-led consumer companies.

He also completed UTA’s agent-training program.

Film financing was one possible future.

Instead, the next major career change came from hospitality.

California Introduced Him to Wine and Sailing

Vincze began selling wine in a restaurant before working as a sommelier and bartender.

He earned WSET Level 2 certification.

At the same time, he lived aboard a 38-foot Catalina in Marina del Rey.

The sailboat was called Andiamo.

For roughly 15 months, it served as his home while he learned to sail and spent weekends exploring Santa Monica Bay.

The Boat Eventually Inspired His Business

When Vincze later decided to leave consulting and take an entrepreneurial risk, he returned to New York.

He found a café/bar concept available on the Upper East Side and took over the space.

The build-out was intensely personal.

Vincze spent months working on the property himself and has described sleeping in the basement during the process.

On April 22, 2026, Bar Andiamo opened.

Why the Name Andiamo Matters

The name isn’t simply Italian decoration.

It comes directly from the sailboat Vincze once called home.

The connection gives the bar a nautical thread linking his California chapter with his new life in Manhattan.

“Bar owner” therefore compresses an unusually elaborate backstory into two words.

Behind the title is a competitive runner, private-credit professional, Columbia MBA, entertainment-industry explorer, sailor and sommelier.
