His Trivia Career Started at Jesuit High School
Lloyd’s involvement began at Jesuit High School in Louisiana.
Quiz bowl rewards broad academic knowledge, rapid recall and the ability to anticipate when enough information has been provided to identify an answer.
Those skills translated into a long collegiate career after Lloyd entered the University of Louisiana at Lafayette.
A State Championship Came During His Freshman Year
In 2014, Lloyd joined three other UL Lafayette students to compete in Louisiana’s collegiate Quiz Bowl state championship.
The team went undefeated and won the title.
For Lloyd, it was a significant accomplishment remarkably early in his university career.
The victory sent the team onward to regional competition involving schools such as Rice University, Texas A&M, Tulane and Louisiana Tech.
Lloyd Continued Winning
His quiz-bowl career extended well beyond that first championship.
He competed for UL Lafayette and later Tulane.
His results included victories at regional ACF Fall mirror tournaments in 2015 and 2017.
Years later, he remains active in trivia and plays bar trivia recreationally.
He Now Helps the Next Generation of Louisiana Players
Lloyd serves as President-Elect of the Louisiana Quiz Bowl Association.
That means his relationship with quiz bowl has evolved.
He is no longer simply the student trying to buzz first; he is also involved in supporting the broader infrastructure of academic competition in Louisiana.
His Jeopardy! appearance therefore comes after years spent on both sides of competitive trivia.
His Day Job Is in Finance Consulting
Professionally, Lloyd works for Waylin Partners.
His background includes financial planning and analysis, accounting, consulting and business strategy.
Earlier, he worked for Ruby Slipper Restaurant Group.
There, his responsibilities included analyzing financial and operational information from the restaurant business.
UL Lafayette and Tulane Shaped Both Sides of His Career
Lloyd studied Finance at UL Lafayette between 2013 and 2017.
He was part of the university’s honors community while simultaneously competing in quiz bowl.
He then attended Tulane’s A.B. Freeman School of Business from 2017 to 2018 and also represented Tulane in quiz-bowl competition.
His education and extracurricular life therefore developed along parallel tracks: finance on one side and trivia on the other.
Meet Meatball, Bisou, Holly and Thistle
One of the more memorable details about Lloyd has nothing to do with either subject.
He and his wife Gina have four unusually named pets.
Meatball is their tortoise.
Bisou, Holly and Thistle are their three snakes.
It’s the sort of contestant anecdote made for Jeopardy!—and another memorable detail in the biography of someone whose road to the show began many years before he ever entered the studio.
